Phoenician 4 Piece Grinder Review (Large)
Although most people are concerned with finding the best vaporizer for their needs, I find that grinders are one aspect of the cannabis vaping experience which tend to go overlooked, and most people settle on something which isn’t durable or can’t shred their bud finely enough. Because vaporizers work best using finely ground bud (more surface area means your vape can extract the active components of your cannabis better), I feel that grinders are an important item that must be considered if you want to get the best vape session possible. Developed by Phoenician Engineering, the Phoenician product line consists of high-quality medical-grade grinders that have been designed to give you the best grind every time. Over the years I’ve owned several grinders (including the Chromium Crusher and my broken Zeus Vortex), so I was excited to try a new one which promises to offer a high quality grind every time. Made in the USA, Phoenician grinders come in small, medium, and large formats, and for the purposes of this review I’ll be looking at the large size which has the following dimensions:

After unboxing my grinder (which came in red, but there are seven color schemes to choose from), I examined it and noticed that the unit is made up of high grade brushed aluminum which is both durable and easy to clean. The grinding space is held tightly in place by a strong magnet in the center, and the entire grinder has ridges on it which gives it a firm grip when held. I also noticed that the grinder has a space designed to hold rolling papers as well as a built in ashtray. However, as someone who vapes almost exclusively I don’t really use them very often! I did notice that by placing my thumb inside the ashtray space while grinding, I was able to increase the amount of torque applied to the grinder which made grinding sticky fresh bud quite easy (and comfortable to boot!). This is a 4-piece grinder, so in addition to the grinding space and herb trench, there’s also a steel screen and catch basin for kief (pollen). The large storage area allows you to hold nearly five grams of ground bud and the kief compartment holds roughly the same and possibly a bit more as kief is denser than ground herb.
So far, the Phoenician Grinder has been able to effortlessly shred even the stickiest bud that I’ve thrown at it, and this is thanks to its sharp, well-placed teeth in combination with its easy to grip exterior. Furthermore, the large size of the grinder allows me to apply greater torque than I could with a smaller grinder. For best results, I suggest placing a small amount of lubricant (olive oil works well!) around the top ring to make grinding your bud a very smooth process. I recommend cleaning your grinder with a cloth and rubbing alcohol from time to time (how often depends on how much cannabis you grind), but of course make sure to use a small brush to collect any leftover cannabis and kief before cleaning!
Although I’ve had a great experience so far, one of the downsides that I noticed with the Phoenician grinder was that although the bottom three compartments have a locking mechanism, they tend to separate quite easily so make sure that if you take it with you on the go to keep it in a small compartment in your bag where it won’t move around much.
As a whole, I must say that I’m quite impressed with the Phoenician grinder, and its durable nature gives me confidence that it will last a long time with just a little bit of cleaning from time to time. Moreover, the inclusion of an ash catcher and rolling paper storage spot is also a neat addition. I recommend purchasing the large version if you’re a heavy vaper or like to have vape sessions with several friends. Although the Phoenician line of grinders is a little bit pricey compared to other grinders currently on the market, it will last a lifetime and guarantees that your bud is well ground for every vape session!
